About this check

What AI Image Detector actually does.

The AI Image Detector — also called an AI image checker or AI picture detector — reviews still images for signs of generative-model output, retouching, and recompression. It treats every photo as a chain of evidence: pixels, metadata, and the context in which the image was shared. The result is a single Truth Score with the specific signals that pushed the score up or down, so you can decide whether an image deserves trust. For AI-generated art specifically, see the AI Art Detector.

How it works

  • 1Texture analysis flags smooth or repeating patterns common in diffusion-model output.
  • 2Edge and lighting checks look for splice boundaries, mismatched shadows, and impossible reflections.
  • 3Compression and metadata layers are reviewed for re-saves and editing residue.

When to use it

Real situations this page is built for.

  • An influencer photo looks too perfect and you want a sanity check.
  • A marketplace listing has product photos that may be reused or AI-generated.
  • A receipt or document image was sent as proof and the formatting feels off.

Limitations

This is a demo engine — scores are illustrative, not forensic. Heavily compressed social-media images and screenshots-of-screenshots reduce signal quality.

Honest scope

What this detector does not do.

Naming the gaps explicitly so the score is interpreted in context.

  • Whether the photo depicts a real event — only the image artifacts.
  • Which AI model generated the image, if synthetic.
  • Whether the photo is of a specific real person (use face recognition for that).

FAQ

AI Image Detector questions

Can the detector tell which model generated an image?

No. It reports whether an image looks synthetic or manipulated, not which generator produced it. Model attribution is a separate, harder problem.

Does the detector store my uploads?

Files are processed in-browser for the demo. No image bytes are sent to a backend or retained.

What image formats work best?

Original JPEG or PNG straight from a camera or generator gives the cleanest signals. Re-saved or screenshotted images carry less evidence.
